Carolina Classic Tournament Results
The Paladins opened the 09-10 mock trial season this weekend at the Carolina Classic hosted by Elon University, Burlington, NC. Twenty-three teams from throughout the mid-Atlantic region competed at this tournament; Furman fielded one team. The field included many of the teams from the Washington, D.C. area, which sport particularly strong teams. The coaching staff has divided our experienced students among the program's four teams to teach our less experienced competitors the ropes of mock trial. We are blessed with a very strong group of first-year students and sophomores and an equally talented group of juniors and seniors, who also are exceptional leaders.
Our team finished with a record of 4-4; we won both ballots from South Carolina and Georgia Tech, but lost both ballots to Washington and Lee and Patrick Henry. Patrick Henry is the new kid on the block, and they won several national championships in undergraduate moot court, but they recently decided to compete on the mock trial circuit, too. Katherine Myers '10, Columbia, SC, won an outstanding witness award. Myers and Ameer Armaly '11, Greenville, SC serve as the captains of our team. They are ably assisted by: Mattson Smith '13, Tega Cay, SCBrittany Weynand '13, Boerne, TXEkow Bartels-Kodwo '13, Accra, GhanaAdam Lalor '13, Nashville, TNSarah Jennings '12, Littleton, COCatie Donnelly '13, Charleston, SCEmily Bridges '12, Greenville, SC Next weekend, the Paladins will be sending one team to the Classic City Invitational in Athens, GA, and two teams to the Sanders Invitational, Lexington, KY.
