Furman's Mock Trial Teams Sweep Top Honors on Way to National Championship Tournament PDF Print E-mail

GREENVILLE, S.C.—Furman University’s mock trial teams placed first and second out of 24 teams in the Nelson Mullins Riley & Scarborough Division of the Carol N. Ney National Tournament held on campus this weekend. Both teams advance to the national championship tournament in Des Moines, Iowa April 17-19.

The Ney National brought the 24 teams that had advanced from the regional tournaments in Chapel Hill, Birmingham, and Orlando to determine which six teams would earn bids to the championship finals. The Furman teams earned two of the six bids, the only program in the competition to do so.

Last Elite Invitational of the Fall PDF Print E-mail

The Paladins competed this weekend at the 16-team Derby Challenge, hosted by Bellarmine University, Louisville, Kentucky. This was the last elite invitational of the fall season, and Furman was once again blessed that its stature in the mock trial community earned us an invitation to such an exclusive affair. Only 16 teams from around the nation were invited. The field consisted largely of teams from the national championship programs over the mock trial association's 20+-year history.

Furman Named as National Championship Series Southeast Site PDF Print E-mail

The American Mock Trial Association (AMTA) Board of Directors has named Furman University as one of seven sites across the United State to host opening rounds of the 2009 national championship.  Dr. Sara Zeigler, AMTA President, notes that "Furman University has hosted outstanding regional tournaments for over a decade, and the Board is delighted to recognize that effort by selecting it as one of our sites for the 2009 national championship series.  With excellent financial support, anchored by the South Carolina Bar Foundation, and a large and enthusiastic judging pool, AMTA is pleased to move its relationship with Furman University from the regional to the national level."

Paladin Rookies Shine at Elite Tourney PDF Print E-mail

Brooklyn, New York: the site of this weekend's Downtown Invitational Classic, hosted by New York University, at the Federal Courthouse in Brooklyn, New York. The Downtown field included 18 teams, all hailing from programs that made national championship appearances last spring in Minneapolis. The Paladins were fortunate to have an invitation to this elite event.
